What on Earth have I Started…

DSC00770

5 years ago I was just graduating from High School with the world at my fingertips. Unfortuantely, I wasn’t too interested in that world and wandered to the beat of my own drum since then.. From Michigan to Arizona and back again, I’ve come full circle. (More about all of that later in my updated “About” page)

Long story short, I’ve enrolled myself into University of Detroit Mercy in association with Aquinas College and St. Mary’s Hospital’s, nursing program. 4 years down the road (well.. minus 2 weeks and 3 days) I’ll be receiving my BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) and are eligible to take my nursing exam to become an RN (Registered Nurse). It’s incredibly expensive (Try $29,000 a year) and insanely grueling in the senior years, but I have to do it for myself and I’m excited at the idea of being this much closer to the end.

Since I’m not a normal aged college student, things are slightly different for me as I have to commute over an hour each way 5 days a week for my classes (not a big deal until I hit wednesday’s when I drive longer than I have class for) and had to work incredibly hard to attempt to get the state of Michigan to help pay my tuition. Which they did after testing, interviews, extensive documentation and attendence sheets I have to have my professor’s complete every two weeks. It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time, but if I can keep my grades high I have a great chance of getting full funding again next year through scholarships.

But enough of that madness, here’s to the class of 2013 :)

(One of the main buildings on campus, conveniently named ‘The Academic Building’. It’s the largest, however, not the main nursing building. It’s old and impressive.. the thing that bad high school based movies are made of :P And yes, that is a giant cross on top of the building. Aquinas College is a Dominican Catholic College, that has Nun professor’s along with normal staff)DSC00769

(St. Aquinas…this statue has the biggest head I’ve ever seen. Located in the lobby of the Academic Building)DSC00762

(My classes are based in the 3 main buildings on campus, which is entirely wooded and somewhat like a wonderland at 8am in the morning when you have to walk through it and across stone bridges)DSC00771

(The Carriage House has the Moose Cafe in it, which is run by students and serves insanely high priced coffee and sandwiches)DSC00765

(Wege Center (pronounced Wedgey..like..underwear up the bum, go ahead and get your giggles out now) houses the bookstore and slightly lesser priced foodstuffs in the Corner Cafe in the basement.. I think there is a nurse’s office and such upstairs, but haven’t felt the need to wander over there with H1N1 virus on the loose)DSC00773

(And last but not least.. this picture looks normal until you realize that I didn’t zoom in at all and was 10 feet from the squirrel.. they are all the size of small buffalo’s on this campus… It’s fairly startling to be walking through the woods in the morning, thinking from the sounds of rustling to your left that there might be a deer.. but no.. it’s Squirrelzilla)

Welcome to my next 4 years..
